FC:You released an Album named Hypertension in 2004, when will the next album be born to fans?

JON:Soon! I get asked this question every day by email. My new album, called "Curses and Blessings", is finished, but there have been some problems organising the release. They will all be resolved very soon though, and the album will be out in the next couple of months.

There are some moments, and some compositions, which I love and am proud of, but I have progressed a lot since then.  Also, Curses and Blessings will show more influences from the styles I have studied in the past, like Jazz and Country, as well as the usual blends of rock, acoustic and pop.

JON:None! I am never satisfied! My favourite song I have ever written is Swallow You Whole, but I think I am the only person who loves that song! It is amazing to play live, but extremely difficult.

  P1 r" c9 u# A) ]% L8 h+ _: `JON:I use Takamine guitars, who are my sponsors, and also occasionally Lowden guitars. My Takamine is a TAN10C, with the Cooltube valve preamp inside it, it is very cool. I use a load of Boss pedals too, including BD2 overdrive and OC3 octave, and also some vintage pedals which they don't make anymore. I use VERY heavy strings - from a 015 to a 066! They are handmade by Newtone, whom  I believe make the most wonderful strings on the planet.

" B. u7 J7 r2 U. lJON:Of course everyone in Italy loves Pino! Everyone in the world loves Pino! Including me! He lets me stay at his house when I am in Rome, and it is an honour to spend time with him. My performances in Italy were a wonderful experience, it is a beautiful country. The food is great, the wine is sometimes too good to resist!

0 }$ x( T. z! j+ ?; O4 AJON:That song is very simple, the melody is based around a simple major pentatonic scale and the chords are 10th intervals (like a 3rd, but separated by an octave) which is the sweetest sound in all music! The tuning effects help lend a country feel, it's kinda like a pedal steel sound.
! A  G9 U6 y" f7 @9 [9 J那首曲子很简单的，旋律基本上由简单的大调五声音阶组成，和弦则采用10级和弦（就像一个3级和弦但是加进了一个八度音），这样的搭配是所有音乐里最甜美的！调弦的效果让曲子听起来更有乡村的感觉，有点像踏板的金属声。

' a+ z) G6 Q9 Q# G- Y4 HFC:When did you start accompanying singing with these fingerstyle techniques? and what inspaired you to make music in such a way?

JON:I have always sung, although it does not come naturally, I have to work hard on my technique! Even then it doesn't always sound good to me. I started performing solo by accident - I used to play in bands, then a few years ago I was playing acoustic gigs with a singer. When she moved away, I was thought I'd try doing the singing myself, and that's where it all started!

FC:From the 1st touch of guitar at the age of 2, and then you learnt classical, Jazz, Rock and Roll, Blue. What do you think helps you most with your unique style you are having today?

) b* G$ X1 p% W4 a1 HJON:My idols in term of guitar technique and style are Michael Hedges and Joe Satriani. Satch is massively overlooked when it comes to composition and innovation. Some of his chord sequences are staggeringly beautiful, and he certainly introduced the world to the real possibilities of tapping, with his two-handed compositions like Day At The Beach, Midnight and The Headless Horseman.

JON:Nick Harper, a singer-songwriter from England, is a big hero to me too. He is not even that famous in England, but he is a genius.

FC:We interviewed a lot of famous players , almost all of them mentioned Michael Hedges, so what do you think about Michael Hedges?

JON:If you look on my videos you can see my Michael Hedges tattoo! He is the great overseer of the acoustic guitar. There are some terrible guitarists around right now, especially on Youtube - lots of fast tapping, no feeling or melody. You can tell the guys who are influenced by Hedges as they shine out from the crowd - guys like Erik Mongrain, Pino, Andy McKee.

Butterfly Hurricane is about loneliness and isolation, feeling truly separated from the world. It's an existentialists anthem!

FC:you used a lot of open tunings when making the album Hypertension, can you share with us where do you get the inspirations when you are writting music?

  N' N2 w7 P" t1 \3 I1 k1 T8 PJON:Sometimes I have a sound in mind which I want to  make. You can hear this in songs like Afterglow (which will be on Curses and Blessings, but is on Youtube) - I wanted to write something with a jazz influence in some aspects, but with the feel of the song Glorybox by Portishead. Sometimes I just sit with my guitar, or just a piece of papaer and a pen, and start with a simple thought or feeling, and just let it go where it will go. Butterfly Hurricane is more like that. The lyrics will be more surreal, and the music often more typical to me rather than jazz/rock/blues or whatever. It will have no style!

FC:In the Hypertension,you arranged a song named Radio head- High and Dry, You charming voice and unique accompanying style give audiance indeed a kind of feeling of High And Dry. How do you manage that? any stories about that?

JON:I will tell you something silly - when I play that song I always think of the motorcycle stunt man Evel Kneivel. It is a literal interpretation of the lyrics, but I can't help it! When he died I found it so hard to play the song, I was so sad!
好吧我说你可不许笑--每次我演奏这首曲子的时候，我脑子里都会浮现这么一个人：摩托车杂技演员Evel Kneivel。我真的忍不住会这么想！所以我知道他去世了以后，都没法演奏这首曲子了，我太伤心了！（必须笑;P ;P ）

JON:I record my songs all in one take. No overdubs. Most guitarists play the songs in sections, and edit them together. Also, I use my pickups when I record as well as two SE microphones from China!
& Z; b* G- q6 a' w我的录音都是一遍过，没有剪辑。大多数的吉他手都是分段演奏曲子，然后把它们编辑到一块儿的。值得一提的是我录音时用的拾音器和两个SE麦克是中国产的！

FC:For those friend who want to write music with guitar, can you give them some pieces of advice?
对正在想要创作的朋友你什么建议？

JON:Learn as much theory as you can, study other people's songs and chord progressions, try to change them or play them in your own way and really understand how chord changes work. Then pick up your guitar, forget everything and see what comes out!

FC:there are many techniques in your music, for those who are planning to learn to play your music, do you have any suggestions ?

JON:Stretch. Don't hurt yourself! It is so important to stretch you arms, hands and fingers several times day when you are practising.

I would LOVE to come to China, there is so much to learn from your culture. And I want to try some of your amazing food which seems so bizarre to an Englishman! Baby mouse on a stick?

on first laid his hands on a guitar at the age of two (actually it was a ukulele, as his parents couldn't find a guitar small enough!) He started taking classical guitar lessons, wrote his first song at the age of six, and at twelve he was accompanying his father, a music critic, to blues gigs in his hometown of Blackpool. Jon immediately got hold of an electric guitar and began emulating Clapton and Hendrix. This led in turn to teenage years spent practising the skills of the rock guitar hero - playing very fast and very loud!

While there he paid his way through college playing jazz in café-bars, recording as a session guitarist, and playing Country & Western in working mens clubs for line-dancers! Eventually he heard the call of the north and moved to Leeds, where he is now based, to study on the Jazz degree course at the music college there.

# `% @* A5 n- xHe decided to try his hand at performing solo, and discovered all kinds of new sounds could be made with an acoustic guitar - hitting the surface of it to make snare drum, bass drum and bongo sounds, re-tuning the strings to get bass sounds, and teasing high harmonics from the guitar for synthesizer-like effects.

He worked all these techniques into his own songs, and put his years of singing blues into use. He began to get high-profile gigs supporting some of the most-respected names on the acoustic circuit such as Tommy Emmanuel (Australia), Nick Harper and Bob Brozman (U.S.) He has performed at many festivals including The Italian National Guitar Festival and The London Guitar Show at Wembley. Jon's debut album Hypertension - totally self-produced and self-released - has sold 4,500 copies at gigs and from his website alone. His mailing list is at 6,534 at the time of writing, and is increasing exponentially. He performed over 100 shows in 2004, and nearly twice that in 2005.

这个哥们的歌不错，指弹其实运用电琴的概念去演奏也非常不错，老乔也有很多电琴曲用到了双手点弦，有弦有品丝的乐器的演奏方法其实都是通用的。
