Mr Isato Nakagawa and Ryohei Shimoyama 8月11日22:19

In the wake of Mr Masaaki Kishibe and Lu Jiahong's performances,another fingerstyle guitar concert was held in the same bar as usual on August 10th.Mr Huang Jiawei was still the organizer,who brought two Japanese guitarists this time.One was Isato Nakagawa,over 60 years old,the most renowned guitar master among Asia in fingerstyle field.As a patriarch,he played a predominant role in the development of fingerstyle in Japan.Many young guitarists used to be his students,including Masaaki.The other was also Isato's student,Ryohei Shimoyama,24 years old,even younger than me.This talented guy released his first album when he was only 19.

    Isato weared common attire,a red cap,a dark blue T-shirt,grey trousers,and a pair of old shoes.Impolitely speaking,he looked like a migrant worker more than a guitarist from the appearance.However,you had to make a reevaluation after hearing his guitar playing. Isato's music abounded in oriental flavor,not so garish at the first sight but very charming deeply,which kept you enjoying even after the end.He got an encore to meet the extra satisfaction of the audiences.Ryohei's music outshined his age to some extent.You could never think such a young fellow played so professionally.It was a pity that the future potential star was not Chinese.

    It was a fatiguesome day.After work I took a taxi to the subway station,went through more than ten stations,walked a long way to the bar,enjoyed the concert for two hours and a half,and arrived at my dormitory at 11 pm.Meanwhile,it was a meaningful day too.I got their autographs and took pictures with them,which were then put into the list of my precious collections.Just as the new title of my blog--Joie de vivre,catch the extraordinariness of life.I did catch it this Friday.

Mr Lu Jiahong--a famous Taiwan guitarist 6月3日12:38

Since the last guitar concert,before long came another one in the same bar.It was just one day before Children's Day and it was performed by Mr Lu Jiahong from Taiwan.Compared with Huang Jiawei and Masaaki Kishibe,Mr Lu is much younger and more dynamic.This handsome guy changed his hairdo last year and indeed emits the temperament of a star now.Although I am not sure about his age,it is likely that he belongs to the generation of 1980s.There are a lot in common among our childhoods such as cartoons.For instance,he rendered the theme "Slum Dunk"(A famous Japanese animation about basketball) perfectly with a guitar which immediately arouse my memory dating back to a dozen of years ago.And "Super Mario",the hyper-classic TV game,was also transposed to a guitar solo by him.
    His playing list was arranged quite well.Songs with miscellaneous genres,passionate,romantic,exotic,humorous,creative,intersected one by one.Mr Lu was also good at kusoing.He even changed "Qi Li Xiang" of Jay Chou into an American country song.It equated playing rocks with an erhu.No other purposes but to have fun.I indeed admired his skills,as well as physical and finger strength.Just imagine how challenging it is to play difficult songs with your fingers rubbing and flying through the sharp steel strings for almost two hours.There is no doubt that ordinary people won't bear the pains on their fingers before finishing it.Besides,I could not find any subtle mistake even a little bit.It was far more than being described as fascinating.
    While I feasted my ears on the concert,the audiences brought me a dose of disappointment.The number of audiences doubled as opposed to that last time.The whole bar was  absolutely overloaded with people.I never expected that Mr Lu could attract so many fans there.The atmosphere was supposed to be fevered and heated and it really was.However,I hardly found any sense of rules in these youngsters hooraying below the podium.Some guys as tall as a tree pushed himself in the front row and then stood like a pole,blocked the sight of others behind him.And some others behind the crowd kept talking loudly from the beginning to the end like bees buzzing around.Didn't they even know how to show the basic respect to a performer?There were two possibilities.One was that they were way too stupid and ludicrous to realize their filthy demeanor.The other was that they were way too unabashed to take it as guilt.I was unlucky to get an inferior position.With so many heads in front,I had to kept stood on tiptoe for hours like an acrobat.I felt I was playing basketball rather than appreciating a concert.

    Another thing impressed me a lot was a handicapped with a pair of crutch in his hands.Evidently he was a fan of guitar or he would not show up in his arduous physical condition.I also saw him last time and my buddy left his seat to him.But this time we had no seat even ourselves so we could do nothing to help him again.It was cruel that nobody else showed any sympathy towards him.He stood at a corner,deserted,engaging himself in the music till the end.Incredible!I was reluctant to accept the fact that this generation was selfish,indifferent and cold-hearted,but it truly happened around me.I have a word to kids like them:The concert is amazing,but do not let your own passion wash your moral away!

Mr Masaaki Kishibe--a famous Japanese guitarist 5月19日16:31

When I am talking about Masaaki Kishibe,I am afraid that few people know him.However,by his fantastic music,this Japanese fingerstyle guitarist has gradually enjoyed a good reputation among more and more fans in China.Since fingerstyle is not as fashionable as pop songs,there is no way for him to attract so many audiences,but for people like me,he is more than an icon even compared with a singer star.

    This Thursday evening,invited by Taiwan guitarist Huangjiawei,Mr Masaaki made a performance in a bar in Shanghai.As I have ever mentioned Huangjiawei for some times,I really admire him,not only because of his own guitar skill but also his passion in propagating the idea of fingerstyle.What is more is that he always stick to the fact that Taiwan belongs to China as a Taiwanese.In my eyes he is not only just a guitarist or an artist but also a patriotic man.It was the fourth time for me to see Huang who brought a different foreign guitarist with him every time,including Andy Mickee from the US,Jacques Stotzem from Belgium and Masaaki Kishibe from Japan.I do feel lucky to know Mr Huang as well as to live in Shanghai.Shanghai is always the top choice for guitar masters to make their debuts in China and Mr Huang brings them in.At that night,I was really proud of being the audience as Masaaki came to China for the first time.

    The bar was extremely small,even no bigger than my dormitory,yet the live atmosphere couldn't be better.My heart kept beating with the rhythmical and fluctuating waves deriving from the oscillation of strings.During the break time,I asked Masaaki for his autograph and took a picture together.It was a pity that I hardly knew anything about Japanese,so I tried to talk with him in English which broke the language barrier between us.Not like some celebrities who always lift up their horns in public,Masaaki is very kind off the stage.Time flied through his music and two hours seemed to be just a few minutes.I sincerely wish to see the two guitarists again in future.

It absolutely turned me on when I got the news that two finger-style guitar masters----Huang jiawei from Taiwan and Jacques Stotzem from Belgium----would make a show in Tongji University on this Wednesday.
I am not so excited to meet a pop-singer,but I cannot help suppressing my adoration upon a illustrious guitar master.Mr Huang jiawei,playing a key role in Chinese finger-style field,has been dedicating his whole life in spreading this new form of music and Mr Jacques,as one of the top 100 guitarists all over the world,is too amazing to be only called as a guitar master but a miraculous musician.However, the fact is only a minority of people in China have heard them.After all,it is totally different from pop music so that it cannot be appreciated easily by the public.Therefore,the two masters had to condescend during their itineracy shows.No magnificent stage but a simple classroom with a capacity of over 100 seats.But even the worst singer star could make a hot concert in the auditorium in a university packed with countless fans.Besides,the show was for free!What a precious opportunity!It was quite worthy to go to Tongji from such a long distance for their performance.
Mr Jacques was really easy-going and shook hands with me actively when I said "How do you do!" to him.Many other audiences realized their dreams of taking a picture with him in high glee.It was a pity that I went there alone without a camera,but I got their autographs as I planned.As to their performance,words even failed me before I describe it.Yes,music of such a level could not be expressed by words.It was far more wonderful than our imagination!Mr Jacques' "guitar magic" won a series of incessant applause,and at the same his humor on the stage made us laugh sometimes.
This is not Mr Jacques' last show in China and he will come again in the next year as he declared.I am waiting for the arrival of that day.

Having bought a camera last month,I got down to making a video transcription of my own guitar performance in my domitory instead of audio recording.It sounded interesting to put yourself into your movie.As a matter of fact,it was my first time to see my performance because I never played a guitar towards a mirror.

    After finishing a tentative demo,it was time for me to watch my maiden work,from which ensued something I never realized before.According to the audio part I was delight to find my progress these days.Yet the video part should not deserve my satisfaction and appreciation.What I saw was a unanimated boy,with a deadpan,a pair of sleepy eyes,and a droopy head seldom roze.It seemed I was torturing myself with a guitar but not enjoying in my songs.I needed more enthusiasm,passion and zest.Just as all I think about during the transcription is the avoidance of making mistakes,I haven't reach such a level to be involved into inebriety.If I make a point to mimic the guestures of those top guitarists who always behave in an extremely excited way while making a performance,I even cannot imagine how disgusting it will be in that pretence is totally different from one's true feeling.

    Music is a type of art,but sometimes it is rather dogmatical to judge it only by listening.The pose of a performer enjoying his own music from his deep heart is also a form of art that counts a lot.

Striving for a performance 11月9日 20:53

Since the closure of "Autumn rhythm festival" will end up with a series of wonderful programs performed by post-graduates in December,the selection procedure is necessary.In yesterday evening,it was time to choose superior ones.

It reminded me of my last performance last year,which was also my first try on the stage of the auditorium.At that time,I composed an English song by myself called "To be with you forever" and cooperated with a partner who was a pretty good electric solo guitar player.In order to fulfill our task perfectly on the stage,we practiced the "only one song" day after day. It is exactly arduous to prepare for a performance so that we should really show our respect to anyone's act no matter how bad it is because even a second of his time on the stage is formed by tremendous endeavour.Sometimes we won't realize that until we are involved into the same situation.During the period of preparation,my mind swung in a paradox,excited for the coming performance but disgusted by our own songs having been practiced for thousands of times.Anyway,we did make it perfectly on the stage finally as we wished.

Back to this year,I changed my guitar style a lot,from singing to classical and finger-style both of which are the same kind of art of individualism,performed by a single person but no cooperation.So we gathered in a classroom and performed one by one.As it was my turn,I felt a little nervous for the atmosphere was totally different from that of my dormitory.In fact,my main purpose to strive for the opportunity of a performance is not for ostentation.I am just eager to make more people in the campus to know classical and finger-style songs.Most of them are pop fans while knowing little about guitar.In their eyes,guitar means singing and playing or a band.I have a strong desire to get rid of these mis-understandings among them and to show them the true enchantment of guitar.
The result is just dangling so far and I am waiting for the news.

Disappointment 11月19日 11:53

My current disappointment should trace back to my strive for that performance last week.In another word,all my expectation and enthusiasm have been fairly screwed up due to the apathy of the college towards classical guitar and finger-style guitar songs.
What I have to make it clear is that there was another group of two students playing guitars during the last round of selection,with a pop song of Beyond Band.However,as tradition,we have to face the awkward fact that only one of us could be chosen.It has been kind enough of them to give us the last opportunity before elimination that we would both be accepted as long as we made a cooperation instead of performing separately.
After careful discussion,our unanimous conclusion was there would be no way for cooperation because the sharp difference between our styles.They played pop songs while singing and I had been tired of that sort of stuff long time ago.Moreover,classical and finger-style were typical played alone which were considered as humdrum and dull by them.It was self-evident that none of them could appreciate them in an artistic way.They were only interested in pop music which limited their recognition to music in such a low level.I have been in my university for almost 6 years only to see the ubiquitous pop music from the broadcast station,the gala perfomance,the BBS,etc.All the guitar shows in the campus were no more than singing or making a band.Classical or finger-style must be a legend or an alien concept for most students.
What depressed me most is not my failure in performing on the stage but in spreading new musical genres by my own performance to the publlic.I have to stick to my own standpoint that I won't go on the stage playing what they require but only classical or finger-style.I wanna kill myself on hearing the explanation that they chose their pop guitar song but not me just because they were made of two people while I was alone.What a ridiculous reason!A dozen of idiots can also go onto the stage because they have even more people by consequence.Should we judge music only by counting the number of its interpreters?
What I mentioned above does not mean I am against pop music.But I am totally against "nothing but pop music".

Shanghai Musical Instrument Exhibition 10月19日 0:12

A series of international affairs have proved it again and again that Shanghai is definitely a metropolis full of opportunities.You see,the 2006 International Instrument Exhibition was held in Shanghai Pudong International Exhibition Centre from this Wednesday to Saturday.As a classical and finger-style guitar fanatic,I was extremely excited to hear the news.Especially two prestigious guitar masters, who I admired much more than a singer star,would made their performances there as the schedule.

    The biggest problem was I didn't own a camera.Fortunately,Keven,the only one who often visits my space,also my lab-mate,lent her camera to me.I would like to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to her here.Then I set out immediately with no hesitation.It was a long way from the west to the east in Shanghai and I made a full use of the subway.When I arrived,the performance of Huang jiawei,a Taiwan guitar master,had began.I was captivated by his professional skills at once.At first I took some photos of him,but the melodies and tunes was so amazing that they could not find their full expression only in these pictures I took.According to Keven's introduction of her camera,it also could functioned as a video recorder.Therefore,I couldn't help recording his performance for several minutes.

    All the exhibited instruments could be played by any visitor there for free.There were also some extra bonuses such as a lottery.I tried to play a NAGA guitar worth over 5000RMB and got a chance of lottery after filling a questionnaire.It was my first time to touch such a luxurious guitar in my whole life.It was totally a different feeling comparing with my poor acoustic guitar.What excites me most is that the big prize of the lottery is a guitar worth 10000RMB.The lottery result will be shown to the public on Saturday.It sounds insane to keep holding the expectation of winning the prize,but there still seems to be a glim of hope.

    An hour later,Andy,a foreign fingerstyle guitar master,appeared and made his splendid performance,winning the ardent applause of his audiences,including me.Out of my expection,the memory of the camera was full during my recording for the second time.I had only recorded no more than 5 minutes' AV.Didn't I use it in a proper way?After that the battery ran out,the camera's mission was terminated.

    When I came back,I was dumfounded to see the 400MB "unbelievable" avi file lasting only 5 minutes. What the hell have I done?@-@

A finger-style guitar party 10月23日 23:19

Maybe all the things should derived from finger-style,a new kind of guitar technique,propagated into the mainland about two years ago.It is a mixture of many different guitar styles such as classical,electrical,bass,etc,with countless kinds of amazing skills to create acoustic miracles both visually and audially.It is indeed hard to believe how can it be possible for a single guitar to make such a powerful impact equal to a band.Having known finger-style for nearly a year,I am now intensely crazy about it.Yet just because it is too new,it has not exerted too much influence on Chinese mainland,where there is no official business of itself,no distinguished experts and no education.Since finger-style section was established two years ago on the Guitar China BBS,more and more fans joined in.There are always a lot of discussions,resources,and inquiries every day.As a frequenter,I even feel my obsession with it.

    It is really a long preamble above!Have you remembered the Shanghai International Musical Instrument Exhibition in my last record?There was a Taiwan illustrious finger-style guitarist named Huang jiawei,who made performances and organized lottery activities.It was a pity that I was not lucky enough to win any prize,including that NAGA guitar worth 10000 yuan,which was endowed to a lucky Henan guy.The party this time was also suggested and held by Mr Huang after the Musical Instrument Exhibition.He has a house in Shanghai,which is large enough to accomodate almost 20 people.But out of some reason,only 10 people was present yesterday.After introducing ourselves one by one,there came the show time,everyone making a live performance.We feasted our eyes and ears on those wonderful skills of each other,and exchanged ideas and thoughts through passionate discussions.

    As an unprecedented gathering activity of finger-style BBS,the party was held successfully in Shanghai.Even two moderators of the forum,one from Liaoning and the other from Yunnan,attened the party from such long distances.That is the remarkable charm of finger-style,which brings a gang of musical lovers together so that we become friends.

According to my plan,I registered as a member of 163888.net just a few days ago.(My homepage:http://4610313.163888.net/index.aspx)In order to make my recording equipments more professional,I bought a mike instead of the MP4 player.My music recording was edited through a sound editing software(K8).It is said that K8 not only can get rid of the noises and disturbances in a song but also can decorate the music with various special effects.However,there is still a long way for me to have a good command over it since I am just a beginner.Actually speaking,I am not satisfied with my works which are with too low volume and too much noise.The biggest problem is my guitar is so poor that even my awkward proficiency has been beyond its potential.My current financial condition is constraining me under the desire of buying a new guitar with much better quality.

Interview&Recording 6月27日 9:43

Yesterday afternoon I was interviewed as schedule.Fortunately,I could understand his Australian accent.It was a short conversation,only lasting 10 minutes.They told me that they would inform me of the result in a couple of days.What I could do next was only to wait.

    Yesterday evening I made up my mind to put my last "cool idea" into practice.----To record my guitar songs.The main problem was to find a quiet place without noise disturbance.By all appearances,my dormitory was not a suitable place.Therefore,I went to my lab with my guitar and mp4.Jsut as I supposed,it was a tough work.In order to create absolutely silent surroundings,I had to do some silly things to torture myself such as closing all the windows and the door,and even turning off the air-conditioner(It made a little noise while running).

    Furthermore,though my guitar level was limited,I prefered challenging difficulties.I tried many times to finish a whole song with no mistakes.The fact was a super beautiful song disgusted me through frequent playing and recording.To be a guitar player,I had to follow the three steps:to enjoy a beautiful song I had not heard yet;to practice it;to play it skillfully even though it disgusted me then.
