Owners of missing dog warn other pet owners
Owners Michael and Sue Hurren were relieved but believe she may have NikeXXX been kidnapped for breeding and fighting purposes.They have contacted Whitsunday Police about the matter.Mrs Hurren returned home from nightshift at 2pm on Thursday afternoon and said she was playing with the dog before having a nap.Mr Hurren came home from work at 4pm. When the dog didn't greet him straight away, he knew something was wrong.The couple called police on Friday morning to report she was missing.Mr and Mrs Hurren talked to neighbours, some who were not even aware the couple had a dog, sent out letters to surrounding suburbs and actively used missing pets websites and social media.To their relief, an owner of a rural home towards Bowen contacted the couple to say he had found Denim at his home on Saturday afternoon.When Mr and Mrs Hurren went to collect Demin, their usual friendly and joyful dog was hesitant and scared. The owners believe she may have been beaten."She just slowly walked up to us and laid at our feet it was heartbreaking," Mr Hurren said.Denim's nose was swollen and bleeding.Almost a week later, Demin is back to her playful self but the couple want to put out a public warning to other dog owners.Neighbours have since told the couple they did see a car approach their isolated Strathdickie home on Thursday afternoon but assumed it must have been someone the couple knew.Since the kidnapping of their dog, the couple has met many other Whitsunday residents that claim their dog had been stolen but not officially reported it.The couple warn locals to be mindful of suspicious behaviour or any potential 'tags' left around homes or fences.
