met numerous times. He was very much in the music, in the art, respectful of others and attentive to what was going on around him and yet in his : f$ J+ l+ a1 Q, H* `
own planet, always very kind to me and also very appreciative for the music I was coming up with. On stage, he was a powerful act, very charismatic, ! V2 ]9 b; s3 p" T
with a multi-dimensional earth drive. He was navigating in the space and the movment, never afraid of letting silence and notes ring. He was giving a $ c: |9 T& o* Y3 M7 y4 E
chance to the people to really embark in the music. The guitar was a medium, just an instrument. I didn't hear "guitar talk" throughout his production,
/ y% E; r- A6 L6 vbut mostly inspiration, imagination, creativity, generousity and also something a bit freaky, undefinable that was creating a sense of danger. It was $ j; v9 o' q: P2 y( c3 H
very obvious in his performances more than in his recordings.

Alto (CA) in 1983. I was very touched when he wrote "Bensusan". I have red in an interview he did for Guitar Player Magazine that he wrote that song $ L; S) L$ j* l, f& c. Q
after listening to my albums for 6 weeks, every day, non stop. My song tribute to his memory "So Long Michael" was first an improvisation at a concert 4 y3 C7 `: i* o. b8 {) l" ^) o; j
in Chicago in 1999. I felt that it was defenetly inspired by my memory of him, there was a flow that was reminding me of his personality and aura, so I
8 ~- |# _, Y, i0 a$ a6 e# dwent into composing the piece thinking even more about describing that metaphoric impression, without never borrowing to his style but to stay in ; y m0 D3 Y9 g! K/ C5 e
my way of adressing music on the instrument.
