I love playing with those guys. We just did about 10 concerts on the North Eastern side of the United States. Antoine’s new album “Existence” is really phenomenal and Craig has been writing new songs that sound even better than the tunes on his debut album. I think his next release will be crazy good! While we were on tour, we finished the show with a trio version of Antoine’s song “A Hiding Place for the Moon.” Craig and I just came up with some parts and it all blended perfectly! It was a great experience and made me think we should do an album together in the future… that would be awesome! Gnomeria is supposed to be an imaginary city in the depths of the earth. I am really into high-fantasy things like “Lord of the Rings” and medieval RPG video games. Ebon Coast was the first song I wrote when I got my McCollum baritone guitar. There wasn’t really a specific inspiration for the tune, perhaps the guitar itself inspired the tune!

Yes, I have been re-recording the songs from Nocturne and releasing them on newer albums because I was never really happy with the audio quality of that album. I originally pressed 1,000 copies of Nocturne here in the U.S. and have never reprinted it since. The tunes have evolved a bit over time, but they are essentially the same song with no drastic alterations.

There are some subtle things going on in that intro that might be a bit difficult to get at first, but just work on it and you can get it! Some of the notes are repeated a few times quickly, but it is just a combination of picked and hammered notes. For example, you might pluck the open 6th string with your thumb, hammer on the 3rd
2 W1 ~) |) @1 y& \' Z# R1 Vfret 6th string, pluck the 3rd fret 6th string with your index finger, and finally play the open 5th string with the middle finger. So with the F#AC#G#BE tuning, you get these notes in that sequence: F#,A,A,A. But each of those A notes has a different characteristic due to how they are played.

所以,通过F#AC#G#BE调弦,你可以用以上方式得到这些音:F#,A,A,A。

Your style has a great influence from Don Ross, he uses thumbpick and fake nails all the time, but you just use your nails, can you tell us what is the difference between two nail styles?
. N* ~5 A$ @7 p您的风格深受阿东的影响,而他总是使用拇指套和夹指甲,但是您好像只使用指甲来演奏,您能否告诉我两种风格之间的差别吗?8 `' G& x0 ^1 ^1 {

Typically, if you don’t have nails your tone is much more mellow and there isn’t as much attack on the strings. It can unfortunately lead to a sort of “muddy” tone where the notes aren’t very distinct. But I think something about my unusual right hand technique has helped me avoid that muddiness. Guitar players often tell me that my tone is clear in spite of the fact that I don’t use nails or a thumb pick.: k- I. `6 L& T

Have fun! Try not to be too concerned about playing everything exactly like I wrote it. Experiment and add your own thing to it! Before long you may find that you have developed your own unique voice. That is essentially what I did. For many years I learned my favorite Hedges, Ross, Reed, and McLaughlin tunes and I would always learn them by ear. Consequently, I would often wind up with slightly different arrangements of what was originally written, but at the same time I started to discover my own voice that way.
# u" k  \. & S- T: e; U1 c3 U  ?, ~+ b
