Which brands/models of guitar do you play?

I know the responses will be limited to those who can read English, but maybe there are threads like this in the Chinese language parts of the forum that could be translated and quoted here.

So many good quality guitars available in China now, a lot of them are made here too. Some are very expensive, some more reasonable, some so badly made and setup that they'd put a beginner off playing for life!

Of the "Made in China" professional level guitars that seem to present a good cost to quality ratio, I like Farida, Waldon, Stanford and Eastman.

I've also heard that there are some hand built Chinese guitars from independent luthiers, and wonder how they compare to the factory made instruments.

I'm lucky enough to own a Taylor GSRC (now GS7) as my main guitar.

So what are you playing, and what do you think of it?

I have 4 acoustic guitars & 1 electric
My favourite is my Cole Clark FL2AC guitar, an Australian brand, which i might add is  owned by some prominent guitarists worldwide There reputation for quality guitar's is increasing
The  second  one I've had  for a number of years, a Takamine  EG510SC model . It has very warm sound with  soft tones and one I mainly use for altered tuning  and playing  celtic pieces, but I do like it very much

The 3rd is made by Maton, probably Australia best known guitar makers and used by many fine guitarist including the man himself, Tommy
Its  a Maton m225 and is at the lower/affordable  end of Maton range... but none the less a fine guitar

The fourth is a cheap classical I've had for years and years and gets played occasionally
The other is an electric, which rarely gets picked up so..yeah

My guitar is TAKAMINE NV760sc, made in JAP, om size and beautifull look,  tops are solid, hand-selected "bear claw" spruce , the back and sides are solid, bookmatched Indian Rosewood, the only reasaon i chose that one beacause it has the best preamp system of guitars, and the price is reasonable ,plus it is all solid.

That TNV760SC is a nice guitar, that has the CoolTube preamp right? I've heard good things about that.

I don't play plugged in very often, I bought my Taylor GS when they first came out and I didn't want the Taylor ES system. I heard that ES picks up too much of the body sound, and there had been some failures with it so, as there was no official Taylor distributor in China I didn't want to risk it! I had a Fishman Matrix Natural II fitted and then managed to pick up one of the original Fishman Aura Acoustic Imaging Blenders for a great price on ebay. It's a great setup, plugged into my Roland KC350, I just wish I had more time (and less stage fright) to get out and play!

4 acoustic guitars now you're just showing off .

I can imagine why the "Fat Lady" is your favourite.

OK I'll own up... I also have more than 1.... I have a 12 string.... Taylor 354ceL30 (which I cut a side port in recently!)

and a Baby Taylor M.

I too, have an Electric.... a beautiful Fender Deluxe Ash Stratocaster... which gets maybe 25% of my available playing time.

yep, it has cool tube preamp, I don't play plugged in often either, i just enjoy the wonderfull moment when it is plugged in, the voice rockes.

it seems that there is a few official Taylor distributors in China, but i am not sure. i love Taylor, however, price of Taylor is over my affordability, anyway, maybe i will own a taylor in the future...

I hope it didnt come across as showing off as it  wasn't intended.  I'm in my late 30's and have been playing since I was 13, so I've actually owned up to 9  guitars over  that period and know doubt will buy more in the future .In fact I have my eye on a beautiful lowden but  the expense stops me from buying it

I'm a poor unemployed man(just graduated), the only guitar I have is one so-called "Emotion" which claimed to be all-solid and are made in Taiwan. I bought her on GuitarChina.com, the biggest site of guitar playing in china, and the only one which have fingertyle section before the fingerstylechina.com is established.

Actually I am not sure if I have been cheated or not, since it is so cheap, only 1800 RMB... I mean too cheap for a "all solid wood" hand made guitar.

But that's alright, I'm just a amateur, and this guitar fits me okay. The reason I bought her is because I think the guitar I played for about 1 year, which owned by one college friend, is so bad that I can no longer stand it...

1800 RMB is not so cheap. Sure you can buy a guitar for 18000 or even 180000 RMB but a really bad guitar is going to be 180 RMB (maybe like your college friends) .
In fact "Emotion" is the brand name used by Ayers Guitars (before they changed to Ayers). Master finger style players Andy McKee, Peter Fingers, and Don Alder have all played Ayers guitars. Although at the lower end, an all solid wood guitar is possible at 1800 RMB. Even back when they were "Emotion", Ayers founder Cheng Fa Huang was a guitar enthusiast with a good quality ethic.

Of course, with the summer nearly here we have to take care to keep our all solid wood guitars protected from the extreme humidity... or they'll end up about as playable and awful sounding as a 180 RMB plywood one!

I play some cheap guitars.. I really like them though!
My dad bought a Recording King RD-06CE for me in China, you can hear it here:
http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTU5ODE1NTQ0.html

and I also play a Martin 000X1, which I absolutely love:

My youtube videos seem to be higher quality than Youku..

I play a cheap Ibanez (dreadnought) which has fortunately a wide fretboard so it's not bad for fingerstyle but the sound is, compared to more expensive guitars, not really good. But it works.

From time to time, I borrow a Hoyer from my dad which has a nice sound.
It's a grand concert without cutaway but unfortunately a very small fretboard.

Currently I'm looking forward to getting a lakewood (gc with cutaway).
But it takes time to save the money for it! ;)
